Sir Alex Ferguson has said he hopes persistent injury does not wreck Manchester United midfielder Anderson's career.
The 24-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury having featured just 16 times this season.
Ferguson could look to reinforce his midfield this summer and there have been suggestions he may discard Anderson, who has suffered a succession of problems since his £25million move from FC Porto in 2007.
"He hasn't really realised his potential, which is there for all to see," Ferguson said.
"He is a fantastic footballer. I just hope he doesn't have the bad luck that Michael Owen has had throughout his career.
"Obviously he's still very young and I'm sure we will get the benefit of that."
