Manchester United's return to winning ways at Everton has been tempered with the news Chris Smalling faces a month on the sidelines with a fractured toe.
The England international was a noticeable absentee from the United side that bounced back from last weekend's derby day embarrassment courtesy of Javier Hernandez's goal at Goodison Park.
Smalling's injury was confirmed post-match as Sir Alex Ferguson spoke of a likely four-week lay-off for the 21-year-old.
The centre-half's injury means he will miss England's November friendlies against Spain and Sweden.
Ferguson said: "Smalling has a small fracture on his foot.
"I think he'll be out for a month and it's unfortunate that one."
