Hernandez is available to face Stoke; Ferdinand hopeful

Manchester United have been handed a boost with the news Javier Hernandez is available to face Stoke, while Rio Ferdinand will also hopefully feature. There were fitness doubts surrounding Hernandez after the Mexico striker was caught by Ashley Cole's late and heavy tackle in United's 3-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday. But the talented forward resumed training on Thursday and is available to face the Potters as the Red Devils aim to maintain their perfect start to the season. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "At the time it (the Cole tackle) happened, he had no feeling in the leg. There was numbness and we thought there might have been some nerve damage. "(But) he's available for tomorrow."

Ferdinand hopes

The United boss also hopes to be able to call on Ferdinand for his first appearance since the win over Bolton, although there is a doubt about fellow defender Chris Smalling. "Hopefully I'll have Rio tomorrow," Ferguson added. "His experience away from home in a game like this is always important. We've got a slight doubt about Chris Smalling - we'll see what he's like this morning. If he's back we're covered well for it." But there is still no return date for Nemanja Vidic, who suffered a calf injury in the opening weekend win at West Brom. "He's making slow progress. He's still having treatment," said the United boss.
