Glittering array of stars set to take on Juventus

David Beckham is set to decide whether to take part in Gary Neville's testimonial at Old Trafford. The former Manchester United player was among a number of ex and current Red Devils to be invited to the special game against Juventus on May 24. The clash with the Italian giants is set to emulate the famous 1999 UEFA Champions League semi-final, bringing together a band of treble winners to complement the famous 'Class of 92'. The year marked the emergence of a new generation at Old Trafford, including the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt - all set to be part of an occasion made all the more mouth-watering by the prospect of Beckham in a red shirt. Treble-winning team-mates Ronny Johnson, Henning Berg, Dwight Yorke and Neville's brother Phil will also don a red shirt once again to add to the spectacle. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reflected: "One of the greatest privileges of being a manager is playing part in the development of young players - watching them grow in confidence and ability. "I have been fortunate to work with many exceptional young players, but the class of 92 was unique. "For so many of them to stay together and succeed at the highest level is a great tribute to their talent and this club's belief in the power of youth. "I am convinced that no group of players will ever make such an impact on the English game as those boys have done - and continue to do."

Returning heroes

The night will be notable as the first time a number of former players have pulled on a United shirt since leaving the club. One of Neville's former team-mates Nicky Butt admitted the opportunity to return to the Theatre of Dreams was too much to turn down. "When Gary asked me to play in his game I immediately said yes, especially when I heard that the class of 92 were going to be there too," said Butt. "It was a special time for all of us growing up and it is only now as you look back that you actually see what an amazing story it is." Neville's brother Phil, who left the club to join Everton in 2005, is another player relishing the occasion, on a night that will hold a special meaning to the Neville family. "I am so excited to be going back to Old Trafford to celebrate what will be an amazing night for my brother," he added. "It will be an emotional night for all the family but what a fitting way for Gary to bow out of a fantastic career. "Gary always looked up to Juventus as the team to emulate so it's great that the game will be against them. "He will go down as the best full-back to play at Manchester United and he will miss pulling on the red shirt as I know how much it means to him."
