Carlisle have completed the signing of Manchester United defender Joe Dudgeon on loan until the end of the season.

Leeds-born Dudgeon, 20, who came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford, will go straight into the Cumbrians' squad for Saturday's home clash with Tranmere.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "We've been looking at Joe ever since the injury to Sean McDaid happened and we had actually watched him before that as one that we might try to follow up in the future.

"He'll come in and provide real competition for that left-back spot as he's another very good young player.

"Manchester United speak very highly of him and he's been solid and shown ability in the games that we've seen him play. He's the type of person and player we want to add to the squad so we're delighted he's joining us."
