Bury boss Alan Knill is hoping to keep hold of on-loan duo Tom Lees and Nicky Ajose at Gigg Lane beyond January.
The youngsters, on loan from Leeds and Manchester United respectively, have been an integral part of the Shakers team that have established themselves as serious promotion contenders.
Defender Lees is growing in stature with every game and penned a new two-and-a-half year contract with Leeds earlier this week.
Ajose has netted six times since moving to Gigg Lane in September and Knill told the Bury Times: "It's ongoing at the moment. I spoke to Lees on Tuesday and we are just waiting for an answer now.
"We are hopeful a deal can be done and there is nothing to suggest that either player won't want to stay here.
"Both players are comfortable playing at this club and enjoy it here."
