Tottenham Hotspur embark on their first ever Champions League adventure as Europe's premier competition returns for the 2010/11 season, with all eight of Tuesday's matches screened live on Sky Sports.
Harry Redknapp's Spurs travel to Bundesliga team Werder Bremen in Group A eager to begin with a success.
In the same group, Inter Milan begin the defence of their Champions League crown against Dutch champions FC Twente .
Serie A giants Inter were crowned champions last campaign after they saw off Bayern Munich in the final, but this time around they are without manager Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese has since left Inter for Real Madrid, with Rafa Benitez, who won the Champions League in charge of Liverpool, now at the helm.
Manchester United are involved in a high-profile encounter as they host SPL club Rangers, a game that will be shown in Sky Sports 3D.
All eyes will be on Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford, with the England striker poised to return to the starting XI after being left out at the weekend.
Also in Group C, Spanish side Valencia head to Turkey as they lock horns with Super Lig holders Bursaspor at Bursa Ataturk Stadium.
Barcelona, who last lifted the Champions League in 2009, welcome Panathinaikos to Camp Nou aiming to bounce back from a shock loss in Primera Liga at the weekend.
Joining Barca and Panathinaikos in Group D are FC Copenhagen and Rubin Kazan, and the pair meet one another at Parken Stadium.
Lyon, who reached the semi-finals last season, kick off against out-of-form German outfit Schalke at Stade de Gerland in Group B.
Lastly, Benfica open their account versus Hapoel Tel Aviv, who meet Portuguese opposition for the first time in their history
