Irishman expected to face Barcelona in Rome

Manchester United's John O'Shea insists his versatility is a benefit and not a hindrance ahead of the UEFA Champions League final. The Republic of Ireland international has failed to make one specific position his own during 11 years as a professional at Old Trafford and has played across defence and midfield. But manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to reward his commitment by handing O'Shea a start at right-back in Wednesday's final against Barcelona, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1. And the 28-year-old believes that he warrants a place in United's side after demonstrating his ability to perform in a number of positions over the years. "Maybe my versatility has counted against me in the past. But the benefit of it is that I've been able to get so many games and get the experience of so many matches in different positions," O'Shea said in the Daily Express. "Internationally as well it has helped me to play in different positions. It's a double-edged sword really. Some people see it as a hindrance. I see it as a positive. "I always felt once I got a run in the team I'd be able to show why I should stay in the team, and hopefully it will continue."
