Tomasz Kuszczak will replace Edwin Van der Sar for Manchester United in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal.
Van der Sar has not travelled to Spain with the rest of the squad because of a knee knock.
The Dutchman's absence meant it was down to Kuszczak and Ben Foster to deputise and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given the nod to Kuszczak.
"We are giving another goalkeeper an opportunity and experience, " said Ferguson. "There is no better experience than a European tie away from home.
"It is a matter of judging the right time to introduce other players like the goalkeepers for instance. That is a prime example.
"The rest is down to injuries when circumstances dictate."
Ferguson is expecting another tough encounter against Villarreal at El Madrigal with the Spanish side earning a goalless draw at Old Trafford in the first meeting between the sides.
"Villarreal have shown over the years they are a tremendous side," added Ferguson. "They have been second in La Liga twice now in the last five years.
"To do that with the resources they have in a small town - they don't have anywhere near the resources of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia - is remarkable.
"They are a fantastically consistent team. We are playing a really good organised side."
