Edwin van der Sar admits Manchester United should have beaten Villarreal in their opening UEFA Champions League clash.
The Red Devils were held to a goalless draw at Old Trafford as they missed a number of good opportunities.
The Dutch keeper admits it was disappointing to come up short but believes they can still take positives from the display.
"It is a missed opportunity on one hand, but on the other hand we played well," he said.
Van der Sar also feels United bounced back well from their weekend defeat at Liverpool.
"After the disappointment from the weekend, it was important to get the confidence back," he said.
"I think we created enough chances to win the game easy."
