Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung expects to return to full training next week.
Park has not featured in United's pre-season campaign after aggravating an old knee injury while on international duty with South Korea at the start of the summer.
He underwent minor surgery on the problem and is confident he is on the verge of making his comeback for the Premier League champions.
"I need probably one more week (before I'm back in full training), I'm nearly there," Park told MUTV.
"I'm looking forward to the season because last season I missed six months.
"I want to play more than last season and show my ability on the pitch. Then maybe I will get more chances (in the team)."
The former PSV Eindhoven man missed the first half of last term after suffering a serious knee injury against Blackburn in March 2007.
His return will be timely for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who will send his team out against Newcastle United on Sunday without several first-team midfielders for a variety of reasons.
