Bayern Munich expect Philipp Lahm to stay at the club next season, despite the failure to agree a new contract.

Lahm has another season to run on his deal at the Allianz Arena and had been discussing an extension with the German league leaders.

But talks broke down on Tuesday and it prompted speculation that the full-back could be sold in the summer.

However, Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer feels Lahm will fulfil his contract with the club before joining a major European team on a free transfer.

"I think he will play for us another year and then leave to join a club like Barcelona or Manchester United," Beckenbauer told Bild.

"He fits in well with us and has proved that he is a world-class players. It would be nice if he would stay."

Lahm joined Bayern from Stuttgart in 2005 and has attracted interest from Barcelona and United in the past, while Juventus have also been linked with a bid.
