Sunderland have agreed a loan deal with Manchester United for defender Jonny Evans.

Defender signs for Black Cats until end of season

Sunderland have agreed a loan deal with Manchester United for defender Jonny Evans. Evans, who enjoyed a loan spell with Roy Keane's side last season, will remain at the Stadium of Light until the end of the current campaign. The Northern Ireland international becomes Keane's first signing of the January transfer window as the Sunderland boss looks to strengthen his struggling squad. Keane said: "We agreed with United yesterday for Jonny Evans to come up. He is here this morning and available for Saturday, so that's a start. I hope to add another two players on Monday. "Jonny did very well for us last year. I spoke to him yesterday and am looking forward to seeing him this morning." The 20-year-old will go straight into the squad for Saturday's FA Cup encounter against Wigan Athletic.

Varga

Meanwhile, Sunderland defender Stanislav Varga is poised to join Burnley on loan until the end of the season. The Slovakian has not played for The Black Cats this season, and will be hoping to assist Owen Coyle's side improve on their current position of 12th in the Championship table.
