Teenage winger Michael Barnes joins Chesterfield on loan to gain experience

Teenage Manchester United winger Michael Barnes has joined League Two outfit Chesterfield on loan until the end of the season. The 19-year-old has been a regular in the United reserve team and joins the Spireites to get some first-team experience. Chesterfield have been tracking Barnes for some time and he replaces Felix Bastians in the squad after the German returned to Nottingham Forest following the end of his loan spell. Welcoming Barnes' move, Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson said: "Michael is an exciting prospect and we are delighted that Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed him to join us on loan as we have had an eye on him for some time." Chorley-born Barnes joined United's Youth Academy in January 2006 after being spotted playing for Lancaster City and made his full debut for the Reds in the Carling Cup that year.
