Manchester United have suffered a huge blow with the news that Mikael Silvestre will likely miss the rest of the season.
The French international was stretched off during United's 1-0 win at Everton on Saturday after falling awkwardly.
Scans have now confirmed the club's worse fears, that there is cruciate ligament damage to his knee.
Silvestre is the third United player to suffer a cruciate injury this year, after Ben Foster and Park Ji-sung suffered similar problems.
United now only have one recognised left-back in the shape of Patrice Evra and Silvestre's injury could mean the likes of Gerard Pique and Jonny Evans get their chance to push for a first-team berth.
