Keane dismisses Scholes talk

Roy Keane has scotched rumours he is trying to bring Paul Scholes to Sunderland.

Roy Keane has scotched rumours he is trying to bring Paul Scholes to Sunderland.

There have been whispers that the Manchester United midfielder has been spotted with his former team-mate at Sunderland's training ground.

But Black Cats manager Keane has played down any possibility of Scholes becoming a Sunderland player next season.

"There's no chance of that happening, never was," Keane told the Sunderland Echo.

"He will be coming to Sunderland this season, I have no doubt about that.

"But he'll be wearing the red shirt of Manchester United."

Fellow Red Devils, Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson, have also been linked with moves to the Stadium of Light, but Keane is trying to steer away from the speculation.

Keane added: "I've seen the list of dozens of names that have come up and I have to say that one or two of them I have never even heard of!

"I don't want to get into all that speculation because I don't like to talk about players who are still under contract at other clubs."

The latest reports claim that Sunderland have had a £5million offer for Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon rejected by Hearts.
