Jermaine Jenas has pulled out of England's squad to face Spain on Wednesday in an international friendly.
The Tottenham midfielder missed his side's 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday and it has now been decided he will not be fit to take part in midweek.
Jenas has been struggling with an ankle injury sustained in Spurs' 3-0 Premiership defeat to Arsenal back in December and while he has since returned, the complaint continues to cause him problems.
The 23-year-old first returned, and scored, against Southend on 27th January but against Arsenal in midweek he suffered further problems at Emirates Stadium.
A scan before kick-off against United revealed the extent of the problem and a quick decision was made with regards his availability.
Wayne Rooney is another doubt having been replaced by Sir Alex Ferguson midway through the second half on Sunday having picked up a knock.
The Manchester United striker will be checked over by club medics on Monday morning before a decision is taken on his own availability.
