Roy Keane has used his Old Trafford connections to bring in Manchester United defender Danny Simpson on loan for the rest of the season.
Keane has steadied the ship at the Stadium of Light and following a fine run of form the focus has shifted to a push for promotion to the Premiership.
The Irishman has been an active player in the transfer market this month and Simpson becomes the fifth new face to arrive, following the captures of Marton Fulop, Carlos Edwards, Anthony Stokes and Jonny Evans.
Simpson, a product of United's academy, spent the first half of the season at Belgian side Royal Antwerp but will now get the chance to showcase his talents in England.
The 20-year-old will go straight into the Black Cats squad for Tuesday's game against Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light.
