Alan Smith is relishing the prospect of returning to action at Manchester United as a striker.
The 25-year-old was transformed into an effective midfield force before injury cut short his season last term.
He is now back in training and set to be handed a role up front following Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure and with Wayne Rooney facing a three-match suspension.
Smith believes he has more potential as a striker than a midfielder, and is out to prove exactly how good he is this season.
"I am a better centre forward than a midfielder," Smith claimed.
"I'm a decent midfielder when the game is rough and tumble. But when teams dropped off, I found it more difficult.
"Up front though, I believe I can be as good a centre forward as I want to be.
"This is the start of my second week of training and, as long as there is no reaction, my next aim is to take part in a game."
