French Champions Lyon have signed defensive midfielder Jeremy Toulalan from Nantes on a four-year deal.
The Under-21 international has moved to Stade Gerland for é¼7 million (£4.75 million) and the signing has heightened speculation that current midfield maestro Mahamadou Diarra will leave this summer.
Real Madrid and Manchester United are known to be long-term admirers of Diarra and it now remains to be seen if they make a move for him on the back of Toulalan's signing .
Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is remaining philosophical about the affair.
"Clearly Toulalan has come to play in midfield," the Lyon boss commented.
"Does that mean that there will be players leaving in this area? For the moment, no.
"But we'll see depending on what the players want."
Meanwhile, twenty-one-year-old striker Nilmar is set to complete a permanent move to Corinthians.
The young Brazilian has been on loan at the South American club this season and now looks certain to end his unhappy time in Ligue 1.
"Discussions with Corinthians for the transfer of Nilmar are on the point of being finalised," Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told the club's website.
