Jean Makoun insists he has every intention of remaining at Lille despite reportedly being wanted elsewhere.

The combative midfielder stated earlier in the month that he expected Manchester United to make an approach in the summer.

United chief Sir Alex Ferguson and his scouting network were reportedly impressed with the Cameroon international's displays in the African Cup of Nations.

The Premiership giants have made no secret of their desire to land a midfielder in the summer, with Roy Keane's considerable boots yet to be sufficiently filled, but it seems a more high profile arrival is more realistic.

Ferguson has chanced on midfielders before, but the Old Trafford careers of Kleberson and Eric Djemba-Djemba are unlikely to inspire confidence in signing a player without proven credentials in a top league.

Makoun believes he will remain at Lille for the foreseeable future, of the opinion that his French taskmasters are heading in the right direction.

''Considering everything is set here, the club's project, I hope we will be able to keep everyone,'' said Makoun.
