Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz reckons Giuseppe Rossi could be farmed out on loan next season.

The revelation is something of a surprise as many people within Old Trafford expect the reserve team hot-shot to be pushing for a first team spot at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has promised he will hand the former Parma youngster a chance before the season is out as he has not enjoyed any Premiership action since his last first team start - a man of the match display against Burton Albion in the FA Cup.

Rossi has been on the bench for the last two Premiership outings but faces a major fight for a place with Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha and Ruud van Nistelrooy all ahead of him in the pecking order.

With question marks still being raised about van Nistelrooy's future, it was anticipated that Rossi will have a bigger role to play next term, but Queiroz has hinted that the New Jersey-born starlet could be loaned out instead.

"Giuseppe will not go out on loan this season," said Queiroz. "He is still working under the programme we set him at the beginning of the season and it will end as planned at the end of the season.

"We have nothing in our minds about letting him go out on loan before then, although next season is another story, and maybe then we can open up that possibility."

Preston and Ipswich Town both wanted to sign Rossi on loan before the Coca-Cola League transfer deadline.
