Mikael Silvestre has been drafted into the France squad for Wednesday's friendly against Slovakia.
The Manchester United defender has not played for his country in almost 18 months, but will provide cover for William Gallas.
The Chelsea stopper is doubtful due to injury and France coach Raymond Domenech has called on Silvestre to provide the back-up.
A French Football Federation spokesman said: "Domenech wanted him in the squad as Gallas, who has not played this weekend, is doubtful."
Silvestre will head across The Channel on the back of helping The Red Devils to beat Wigan Athletic 4-0 in the Carling Cup final.
He will be hoping his display at The Millennium Stadium will lead to a first appearance for Les Bleus since October 2004.
The versatile defender picked up the last of his 36 caps against Cyprus and has previously struggled to find favour with Domenech.
