Chesterfield centre back Reuben Hazell has signed a new contract with the League One club.

The former Torquay United and Kidderminster Harriers man has penned a new 18-month deal with The Spireites, thus keeping him at the North Derbyshire side until the summer of 2007.

The 26-year-old has been on a short-term deal with Roy McFarland's side and despite turning down the club's initial offer earlier in the month, Hazell has finally concurred on a new long-term deal.

"I am pleased to be staying at Saltergate, as everything seems to have fallen into place and I am enjoying my football again," Hazell told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, McFarland has extended the loan of Manchester United defender Phil Picken for the rest of the current season, but Sheffield United striker Kevan Hurst will return to his parent club after the New Year's Eve match at Nottingham Forest.
