Preston manager Billy Davies is expecting a decision on the future of David Jones in the next fortnight.

The on-loan Manchester United midfielder was due to return to Old Trafford in January, but North End are hopeful that he will stay at Deepdale for the rest of the season.

"I have spoken to Sir Alex in the last week or so and we've started to discuss the situation," Davies told Preston's official website. "We've agreed to try and finalise that over the next week or two."

Jones has been impressive during his stint at Preston, and, with United's fortunes also picking up in recent weeks, it seems unlikely that he will be recalled by the club this winter.

"We're keeping our fingers crossed because we would like to keep him until the end of the season. He is a wonderful young player and we've thoroughly enjoyed having him here," Davies added.

"He has really enjoyed himself, too, and I'm sure we would both like the situation to stay the same and him to stay until the end of the season."
