Wes Brown came through his first domestic action of the season against Barnet on Wednesday and is ready to press his claims for regular action for Manchester United.

Brown picked up an Achilles injury in August and was sidelined for the opening exchanges of the new Premiership season.

The England defender has fought back to fitness and is looking to impress Red Devils chief Sir Alex Ferguson in the coming weeks after producing a composed 90 minutes in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

"From now on I have just got to keep training hard for when I am needed," he told Sky Sports News. "I have got to keep working on my fitness and play as many games as possible."

Ferguson has seen key defenders Gary Neville and Gabriel Heinze pick up injuries and Brown claims he is ready to step into the breach.

"We have got injuries at the moment, so if the gaffer does need me I'll be ready because I have played 90 minutes."

Brown's preferred position is at the heart of the back four, but is ready to fill any role.

"I am fine as long as I play, it doesn't bother me where I play," added Brown.
