Udinese general director Pietro Leonardi has ruled out selling Sulley Muntari to Manchester United.

The Ghana midfielder has been watched by United for some time but the 21-year-old seems settled in Udine and scored the club's winner in their victory at Chievo over the weekend.

Leonardi is upset at the rumours resurfacing in some sections of the media as he has no intention of selling the African ace.

"I firmly deny these rumours," stated the Udinese official. "We have already confirmed he is in the squad."

The Red Devils seem unlikely to make any pre-deadline swoops despite Sir Alex Ferguson commenting some time ago that he was hoping to make one "experienced" introduction to his squad.

Michael Ballack is believed to have been the top target but the Bayern Munich star is not entertaining the thought of leaving the Bundesliga champions before his contract expires in the summer. Indeed, Bayern are keen to tie him to a new deal.

One man who could bolster United's midfield after the sale of Phil Neville and Kleberson, and the loan departure of promising talent David Jones to Preston, is John Obi Mikel but the wrangle over his possible arrival from Lyn continues.

The Nigerian youngster wants to join Chelsea after receiving a bumper offer from the champions, despite having already signed for The Red Devils.
