Everton have emerged as suitors of Espanyol defender Albert Lopo.

The Spanish stopper has long been linked with a move to The Premiership and was watched by Manchester United and Aston Villa last season.

Both clubs retain an interest in the centre half, while Everton are now understood to have joined the hunt for Lopo.

The Toffees watched Lopo in action last week when Espanyol were thrashed 4-0 by Blackburn Rovers in a pre-season friendly.

United and Villa also had scouts present at Ewood Park, with Lopo now waiting to discover if a bid will be made.

Lopo has just 12 months remaining on his contract with Espanyol and the club would be fearful of losing him for nothing next summer.

Espanyol want around £2 million for Lopo but, given that he featured in a heavy defeat, he may not have impressed the Premiership scouts.
