Robbo waits on winger

Bryan Robson insists his plans are not being affected by Kieran Richardson.

Bryan Robson insists his West Brom plans are not being affected by waiting for a decision on Kieran Richardson.

The Baggies boss is anxious to bring Richardson back to The Hawthorns for next season following an impressive loan spell last term.

But Richardson is still hoping to convince Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he merits first-team inclusion at Old Trafford.

The winger's eye-catching England debut on the tour to the United States only served to strengthen Richardson's resolve to play for United.

Ferguson has yet to make a decision on whether the youngster will be in his plans next term, with Robson waiting in the wings with another deal.

Robson hopes he can acquire Richardson's services for another campaign as he feels it will be more beneficial to the midfielder's career.

The West Brom chief, though, is not letting his eagerness to sign Richardson derail him from his other transfer activities.

"I have got to get on and look at the long term of the club and whether Kieran comes in or not does not affect that," said Robson.

"As far as I am concerned he is our bonus ball.

"Only Sir Alex Ferguson can tell whether Kieran is going to get a first-team chance.

"But he will be going up against Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs and people like that so his best option may be to come back here and have another year with us."
