Matthew Upson has pulled out of the England squad for their friendly with Holland on Wednesday.

The Birmingham defender missed his side's 2-0 loss at Manchester United on Saturday with a hamstring problem.

After talks between Blues and England officials, it was decided that Upson needed to rest his injury further and therefore would not be joining up with Sven Goran Eriksson's squad.

With Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell already missing, Eriksson was left fairly short of central defensive options with only John Terry, Ledley King and Jamie Carragher available from his original squad.

With that in mind Eriksson has opted to recall United's Wes Brown.
