Manchester United youngster Gerard Pique has signed a new four-and-a-half year deal with the Premiership giants.

The teenage centre back celebrated his 18th birthday this week by penning a contract until June 2009 with the Old Trafford club.

The news comes after the young Spaniard initially joined The Red Devils for an undisclosed fee from Barcelona back in the summer.

The Catalan defender has made three first team appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side this season - including United's goalless FA Cup draw with Conference club Exeter City last month.

Ferguson sees great potential in Pique and has decided to secure his services at for the long-term at United.
