The 32-year-old has spent this season on loan at Racing Santander where he established himself as first-choice.
However, he has been dropped for Racing's final game of the season against Deportivo La Coruna in which they are looking to ensure their survival in the Spanish top-flight.
Ricardo admits there is little chance he will return to El Sardinero next season, and has targeted a second chance at United.
"I no longer see myself at Racing," he told AS.
"Because I have geared myself up to have a good season and do well in England if nothing comes in from Spain - including Racing.
"My loan is finished and now I intend to go back and play there (England).
"I think I have had a good season, perhaps one of my best ever in La Primera. I will take the positives from it."
On recent speculation linking him with a possible move to former club Real Zaragoza next campaign, he continued: "Zaragoza? I spent many years there and over the last few seasons I have always moved just a couple of days before the league starts.
"We will see what happens."
