David Pleat admits Tottenham are monitoring Nicky Butt's position at Manchester United ahead of the Super Sunday encounter between the two clubs.

Spurs' caretaker manager has also stressed there have been no offers for Stephen Carr, who has been constantly linked with a New Year move to Newcastle United.

It has also been reiterated that the North Londoners have no interest whatsoever in West Ham midfielder Michael Carrick.

"We haven't discussed Carrick in our meetings when we talk about possible future players," Pleat told a press conference.

"We haven't discussed Butt in detail but he has been mentioned and we've noted that he's out of favour at Manchester."

Butt could be handed a starting role in the White Hart Lane clash after moving to clarify comments suggesting he was unhappy at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Pleat insists Carr's contract situation is not even a topic of debate in Tottenham.

"Stephen signed a contract four years ago and it has 18 months to go," he added.

"At the moment, he's playing quite well in our side, he's our captain and these stories will always circulate, but we haven't had an offer for Stephen Carr.

"We'll have to see how we go along. I have no specific view on that (Carr's contract being run down in a similar fashion to Sol Campbell).

"For the moment, I'm quite relaxed. It isn't a major issue in our dressing room."
