Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted his biggest problem this season has been trying to select a midfield pairing - from the wealth of options at his disposal.

The Manchester United boss admitted that, as much as he is delighted to have people competing for places, he is struggling to find his ideal pairing.

"The biggest selection problem is in central midfield where I have some great combinations," Ferguson told Sky Sports News.

"I feel Roy Keane and Phil Neville started off superbly against Rangers - but you can't forget the potential of Darren Fletcher or the solidity of Nicky Butt who has been a great servant to this club.

"Eric Djemba is only 22 and will improve whilst Kleberson came on and showed what a skilful player he is.

"There are a lot of different combinations I could try and of course that is going to give me problems.

"Kleberson got injured at Southampton but he is lovely footballer and we saw plenty on Tuesday to show he is an exciting young footballer.

"I hope they all get the chance to make a contribution especially in times like December, and I hope we don't get situations like at Fulham where they had not had enough games and lacked timing."
