ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Ronnie Moore has turned his attentions to Portsmouth's Gary O'Neil in his quest to sign a midfielder.

Moore is desperate to bolster his engine room and missed out on a loan swoop for Birmingham City's Bryan Hughes.

The Millers chief hit out at the Premiership side for their conduct during his attempt to sign Hughes and is now looking elsewhere for a fresh face.

An enquiry for Manchester United teenager Kieran Richardson was knocked back as the Premiership champions require the winger for their Champions League campaign.

Pompey midfielder O'Neil is now the object of Moore's affections and a loan deal could be in the pipeline.

O'Neil has yet to feature for Pompey since the club's promotion to The Premiership and the promising 20-year-old may be tempted by a stint at Millmoor.
