Oriali - Recoba's better than Giggs

A DAY after Alvaro Recoba asked not to be compared to Ryan Giggs, Internazionale's technical director Gabriele Oriali has insisted the Milan side will not try and sign the Manchester United marvel in the summer because the Uruguayan is a better player.

Oriali, the man responsible for transfer business with the neroazzurri, has spoken out in support of Recoba even though president Massimo Moratti often goes on record to lavish praise on United winger Giggs.

"Emre and Okan are two bits of business which we can be proud of," he boasted.

"In the future of Inter, there is not Giggs because Recoba is perhaps better than the Welshman."

Giggs's form has been the subject of much debate this season after a string of indifferent displays culminated in the Old Trafford idol being jeered when substituted following a lacklustre performance in the Worthington Cup semi-final first leg against Blackburn Rovers.

Sir Alex Ferguson wisely opted to leave the wide man out of the starting line-up as a result, and the 29-year-old has bounced back looking more like his old self.

Giggs always insists he is happy to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of his career, but the fact that he is one of the very few genuinely exciting wingers in world football means he will continue to attract admiring glances from the continent.
