MANCHESTER UNITED star Rio Ferdinand has revealed his concern that he may struggle to win his place back in the starting line-up at Old Trafford.

The England centre back has been out of action with a thigh injury, and been forced to keep a watching brief as United have embarked on a marvellous eight-game winning run.

Furthermore, Mikael Silvestre, named man-of-the-match for his performance against Chelsea in the Worthington Cup, and Wes Brown have formed a solid partnership at the heart of the defence.

While Silvestre could switch to left back, and Brown to right back, to accomodate Ferdinand, the record signing from Leeds United faces an anxious wait to see if Sir Alex Ferguson will tinker with a winning formula.

"It's been longer than I thought it would be," he told MUTV. "But these things happen, and you have to get on with it.

"I'm on the right road now.

"The people that have come in have done well, and it makes it difficult for the manager when players get fit.

"Since I have been here, I haven't had a consistent run in the team like I would have liked.

"I have missed some big games.

"But we are now back in a position where we are in contention for silverware."
