LIVERPOOL have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich and France's full back Bixente Lizarazu.

The 33-year-old defender, who recently had a scuffle with team-mate Niko Kovac, is out of contract in Bavaria at the end of the season and has yet to sign on the dotted line prompting speculation about his future.

Reds manager Gerard Houllier knows all about the attributes of the speedy left-sided schemer, who Liverpool tried to sign after Euro 96 when Roy Evans was at the helm.

World Cup and European Championship winner Lizarazu admitted he was unaware of the interest from Liverpool.

"I do not know about any interest from Liverpool. My contract at Bayern runs out at the end of the season, and the priority is to see if they want to talk about another one," said the French star.

A lack of width in the Merseysider's team has become a concern for Houllier and he may see Lizarazu as a short-term solution with an out-and-out winger in the Damien Duff mould the primary target.

Houllier has also been linked with a move for another left-sided player in the form of Mikael Silvestre.

The Manchester United defender, 25, is also out of contract in the summer after shunning all advances from the Old Trafford hierarchy to broker a new deal.

Liverpool tried to sign the player three years ago when he was at Internazionale but Silvestre opted for The Red Devils as he was promised a spot at centre half by Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, in his spell at Old Trafford he has primarily been used as a left back.
