Fergie denies keeper rift

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has rubbished rumours of a feud between Manchester United goalkeepers Fabien Barthez and Ricardo.

The shot-stopping duo appeared to be embroiled in an ongoing dispute about their respective abilities.

Frenchman Barthez has claimed he is baffled as to why United chief Ferguson signed Ricardo from Valladolid.

The Spanish keeper hit back by stating Barthez is 'nothing special' and he is at Old Trafford to be number one.

But Ferguson insists there is no problem between the pair and admits the club have endured similar experiences.

"It is absolute nonsense," said Ferguson. "I have spoken to both players and there is nothing in this whatsoever. I can assure you it is a load of rubbish.

"Last year, we had it with Mikael Silvestre and stuff that was supposed to be coming from him when he was in France.

"The problem comes when they are on international duty. Between whatever they say and the interpretation of it, it always comes back misconstrued or mischievously interpreted a different way and that can cause embarrassment.

"It is not just with United. I have seen it with other clubs as well but there is definitely no truth in it at all."
