FABIEN BARTHEZ has dismissed rumours suggesting that he was on his way out of Old Trafford.

The Manchester United number one has not been at his best over the last 12 months and it was being reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was looking for a replacement.

However, Barthez has dismissed suggestions of a departure, saying: "Me? On my way out of the club? I don't think so.

"The manager hasn't said anything, so I don't know where that has come from.

"I am the one who knows exactly what is going on in the club and I don't care about the rest.

"It is all just pure invention by people trying to belittle me - the same rumours that I am going to leave Manchester."

Barthez also brushed aside Spanish international Ricardo's claims for a first team place, just a few months after his arrival from Real Valladolid.

"Ricardo's presence does nothing to concern me," said the French star.

"I don't know why he was signed, certainly not to take my place. There is no competition from him.

"Anything you might have heard about me not being at my best is a load of rubbish. Some people just like to make this up, but I'll show them.

"I've never been much of a talker. All that matters to me is winning and the same goes for my team. We will keep going and do what we do best."

Barthez feels his indifferent form was down to an injury, which has now gone.

"I have been the victim of an upper thigh muscle injury that has taken a long time to heal, but it has without surgery," he confirmed.
