Mexes fancies Inter move

AUXERRE'S highly-rated defender Philippe Mexes admits he dreams of following in the footsteps of his idol Laurent Blanc by playing for Internazionale.

Mexes is one of the most coveted commodities in European football and is on the shopping list of a string of major clubs on the continent.

English duo Arsenal and Manchester United have monitored the young stopper while Italian giants Inter and Roma are also keen.

Though Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping veteran defender Blanc's influence will persuade Mexes to plump for Old Trafford, it appears the Auxerre ace has plotted a different path.

"My dream would be to replace my idol Blanc at Inter but Roma are also following me," said Mexes.

The talented centre half also revealed that in the pursuit of his services both Italian outfits have presented him with shirts as mementoes.

He added: "The leaders of Inter have given me a shirt of Blanc's, and those of Roma have given me shirts from Batistuta and Totti."
