ROY CARROLL has been forced to pull out of the Northern Ireland squad for their friendly with Poland after picking up a back injury during Manchester United`s 2-0 win over Charlton on Sunday.
The keeper came into the United team for trip to The Valley due to an injury to Fabien Barthez, but succumbed late on after going down heavily under a challenge.
Irish boss Sammy McIlroy has drafted in Sunderland`s Michael Ingham as cover for Wednesday`s clash in Cyprus.
McIlroy said: "I got a call late last night to say that Roy Carroll was out. He got a knee in his back and he has not recovered."
Fulham`s Maik Taylor is likely to start despite languishing in the reserves at Craven Cottage due to the form of Dutch ace Edwin van der Sar.
