SEVERAL clubs are waiting to pounce for Manchester United`s highly-prized reserves, aware that Old Trafford chief Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to trim his squad.

Jonathan Greening has been told he can leave after snubbing the offer of a new contract and Danny Wilson`s presence at the reserve team`s win over Newcastle in midweek has led to talk that The Owls are on the trail of the wide midfielder.

A return to Yorkshire may appeal to Greening but there is also speculation that Tottenham are renewing their interest in a player they tried to sign from York City.

Other reports have indicated that Bolton want to splash out £1 million on the 21-year-old with Sam Allardyce another spectator at the win over the Newcastle second-string side.

Wilson may have been looking at Michael Clegg instead as the £750,000-rated full back is another player who is only on the fringe of first team matters at Old Trafford. Huddersfield were also represented by manager Steve Bruce and he could be eyeing Michael Twiss, a player who had a lengthy loan spell with Sheffield United last season.

Meanwhile, a tabloid report has linked United with Monaco stars Marcelo Gallardo and Phillipe Christanval. Ferguson was an admirer of Gallardo during the World Cup in France while classy defender Christanval has been targeted by other big clubs, including Real Madrid.
