Everton 1 Chelsea 0
There was plenty to get excited about as Everton gained a first Premier League win under Roberto Martinez thanks to Steven Naismith's header on the stroke of half-time. Before then, Chelsea could easily have been in front through new signing Samuel Eto'o. Further chances followed for Chelsea after half-time, there were some feisty challenges, eye-catching performances and Leighton Baines struck the frame of the goal late on.
Player of the weekend
Gareth Barry
Signed on loan from Manchester City on deadline day, Barry marked his Everton debut by producing a 'master-class' performance, according to his manager Roberto Martinez, in the 1-0 win over Chelsea. Barry used his vast experience to lead Everton to a first win under Martinez and it was epitomised by his brilliant first-half block to deny Samuel Eto'o what seemed likely to be a certain goal.
Controversy of the weekend
Jozy Altidore's disallowed goal
Sunderland thought they had come from behind for a second time against Arsenal when Altidore's shot just rolled over the line. However, referee Martin Atkinson had blown the whistle to penalise Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna for a foul on Alitdore as the two players jostled for the ball just outside the penalty area. Atkinson could easily have played the advantage, and compounded that decision by then not sending off Sagna. No wonder Paolo Di Canio was a touch irate when he was sent to the stands late on.
Goal of the weekend
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Tottenham midfielder Sigurdsson's first goal in the 2-0 win over Norwich was a stylishly constructed team effort. Mousa Dembele played the ball out to the left to Danny Rose, whose cross to the edge of the area was smartly chested down by Roberto Soldado for Christian Eriksen. The Dane then played a perfectly-timed and weighted pass into the run of Sigurdsson, who had darted past Eriksen's left shoulder before curling a shot beyond John Ruddy.

Ashley Young
After being booked for simulation, and then winning a contentious penalty during Manchester United's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, Young has been told to cut out the diving by new manager David Moyes. Instead of Kagisho Dikgacoi being sent off for his challenge on Young, on another day the England winger could easily have been shown a second yellow card for simulation.
Save of the weekend
Jussi Jaaskelainen
Take your pick from any one of three superb saves made by West Ham's 38-year-old keeper in the 0-0 draw at Southampton. He produced a stunning point-blank save in the first half to prevent Dani Osvaldo from scoring, and in the second half, twice flung himself to his left to turn away shots from Morgan Schneiderlin and Rickie Lambert.
Moment of the weekend
West Brom's first goal
After appearing set to make it four games in a row without scoring at the start of the season, West Brom finally found the net late on at Fulham. Chris Brunt chipped an injury-time corner to the far post where Gareth McAuley steamed in to head past David Stockdale and earn West Brom a 1-1 draw.
