We look back at who did what in the January transfer window and deliver our verdicts.
Arsenal

Verdict: LOSERS - Arsenal fans wanted a deluge of new signings but had to settle for a drip. A porous defensive display against Liverpool in midweek led to further calls for Arsene Wenger to strengthen and while it doesn't set the pulse racing, the addition of Nacho Monreal should prove to be a canny piece of business. The Spanish left-back is a poised customer and at 26 is the right age to help Kieran Gibbs in his own development. Arsenal still look light though and if they fail to make the top four at the season's conclusion questions will be asked over whether they did enough in January.
Aston Villa
Ins: Yacouba Sylla (Clermont), Simon Dawkins (Tottenham, loan)
Outs: Alan Hutton (Mallorca, loan), Stephen Warnock (Leeds)
Verdict: LOSERS - To be a Villa fan at the moment is to come last in the lottery of life and it's unlikely black clouds will have been lifted courtesy of their January activity. Old heads were desperately needed at Villa Park; a 22-year-old Frenchman and Simon Dawkins (anyone?) don't really fit the bill. At a time when free-spending was probably the way to go, Randy Lerner has tightened his belt to the extent he must be close to losing all feeling to his waist. Worrying times ahead.
Chelsea
Ins: Demba Ba (Newcastle)
Outs: Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Lucas Piazon (Malaga, loan), Sam Walker (Colchester, loan), Billy Clifford (Colchester, loan), Todd Kane (Blackburn, loan), Patrick Bamford (MK Dons, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - It's still early days in Demba Ba's fledgling career in West London but the signs are promising. He's already won over a crowd long-since exasperated by Fernando Torres and is clearly enjoying playing in front of an attacking triumvirate bettered by few. Daniel Sturridge has made a good start to life at Anfield but having only shown in patches what he's capable of at Stamford Bridge, most Chelsea fans will feel confident they got the better side of the bargain.
Everton
Ins: John Stones (Barnsley, undisclosed)
Outs: Ross Barkley (Leeds, loan), Anton Forrester (Blackburn Rovers), Magaye Gueye (Brest, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - There was the odd murmur about a possible bid from Chelsea for Marouane Fellaini but a stripping of Everton's jewels was never likely with the club so handily placed in the league. Instead, David Moyes went quietly about securing Barnsley's highly-rated John Stones on a five-and-a-half year deal that suggests the Scot is convinced of the player's potential. The real test of Everton's resolve to keep their squad intact will come in the summer.
Fulham

Verdict: WINNERS - Martin Jol has been feeling the heat of late but not being blessed with the healthiest of budgets means he's had to clock-up the air miles to work the European market. Wide midfielder Urby Emanuelson looks to be the pick having played 16 times for Holland and clocked up 50 appearances for Milan over the past couple of seasons. Jol knows the Dutch market better than most and has again raided the Eredivisie for players to pep up a Fulham squad that has looked flat of late.
Liverpool
Ins: Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) Philippe Coutinho (Inter Milan)
Outs: Michael Ngoo (Hearts, loan), Danny Wilson (Hearts, loan), Joe Cole (West Ham), Adam Morgan (Rotherham, loan), Alexander Doni (Botafogo), Daniel Pacheco (Huesca, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - Having cut a forlorn and often benched figure during his time at Chelsea it's fair to say Sturridge looks revitalised since moving to Merseyside. His relationship with Luis Suarez has borne plentiful fruit already and the addition of Coutinho could be equally as intriguing. There are those who argue Liverpool are fairly well stocked in the centre of the field but Brendan Rodgers is convinced the club's new No.10 will prove a snip at £8.5million over time. The Brazilian certainly has the ability to be a success and if he can settle quickly and recapture the form he showed at Espanyol (when on-loan) he may just have Inter ruing the one that got away.
Man City

Verdict: LOSERS - There was a sense of the inevitable about the fact City's transfer window would be all about Mario but in truth it was a fairly straight-forward transaction that saw him swap the Arndale for Milan. The Italian splits opinion but leaves City with the well wishes of all but the truly curmudgeon. Having played his part in both the club's FA Cup and Premier League successes of the last couple of seasons Balotelli leaves with a handful of trophies but there will plenty that rue huge potential unfulfilled. There was talk of City drafting in a late replacement but it's in the summer when Atletico Madrid's directors will be putting their phones on silent...
Man Utd
Ins: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
Outs: Bebe (Rio Ave, loan), Josh King (Blackburn), Angelo Henriquez (Wigan, loan), Robbie Brady (Hull), Scott Wootton (Peterborough, loan), Davide Petrucci (Peterborough, loan), Luke McCullough (Cheltenham, loan), Federico Macheda (Stuttgart, loan), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - With the exception of Zaha, who's going back to Palace in any case for the rest of the season, it's very much a case of as you were at Old Trafford. Big things are expected of Angelo Henriquez so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on at Wigan. Given how Tom Cleverley came on during a similar spell at The DW, hopes are high it'll be a deal that suits both clubs. Less is expected of Federico Macheda, who heads to Stuttgart aware that he's on borrowed time in Manchester. Zaha will be keen to show he's the real deal in the final few months of the season at Selhurst Park, whilst at the same time will be more aware than ever of the dangers of tough-tackling full-backs...
Newcastle
Ins: Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (Montpellier), Yoan Gouffran (Bordeaux), Massadio Haidara (Nancy), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse)
Outs: Conor Newton (St Mirren, loan), Demba Ba (Chelsea, undisclosed), Xisco (released), Paul Dummett (St Mirren, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - Enough with the French jokes. Graham Carr's record on the other side of the Channel is such there can be little doubt at least a couple of the club's latest additions will prove astute value for money. Mathieu Debuchy should be an improvement on what has been a bit of a problem spot at right-back, while Moussa Sissoko hit the ground running with a commanding display on his debut. There's no getting around the fact that pretty much any Premier League side would miss Demba Ba, but Newcastle have always looked at their best with a lone striker so this is very much Papiss Cisse's time to shine.
Norwich

Verdict: WINNERS - Chris Hughton has been desperate to pep up his attack and having been repeatedly thwarted in his attempts to bring in Gary Hooper had to be creative in his thinking. He's taken a gamble on Luciano Becchio in using his speed-dial to Elland Road. The Argentine has no experience of top flight football but a record of 75 goals from 195 Leeds appearances suggests he's worth a gamble. Hughton never really fancied Steve Morison so his departure will not be sorely felt, while Lee Camp should provide decent back-up to John Ruddy.
QPR

Verdict: WINNERS - At £12.5million and on anything between a reported £70-100k-a-week Christopher Samba's arrival at Loftus Road made the back pages for good reason. It's a colossal outlay for a good but not impeccable defender and only a successful fending off of the drop will stop football from shaking a collective head. Harry Redknapp has worked with Jermaine Jenas before and clearly feels he can get something out of him despite recent injury concerns, while Loic Remy is an upgrade on Djibril Cisse.
Reading

Outs: Michael Hector (Reading, loan), Jordan Obita (Oldham, loan), Gozie Ugwu (Plymouth, loan), Dominic Samuel (Colchester, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - Had Reading landed Gylfi Sigurdsson it could have been just the tonic to keep them in the division but Tottenham's refusal to sell means they'll have to do it without a player revered by the Royals faithful. Whether any of their new boys can go on to achieve such a status is questionable, with Brian McDermott having placed his faith in Hope Akpan and Nick Blackman from Crawley and Sheffield United respectively. Daniel Carriço has a decent pedigree and should prove an astute acquisition given time.
Southampton
Ins: Vegard Forren (Molde)
Outs: Sam Hoskins (Stevenage, loan), Ryan Dickson (Bradford, loan), Danny Seaborne (Bournemouth, loan), Jonathan Forte (Sheffield United, loan), Ben Reeves (Southend, loan), Steve De Ridder (Bolton, loan)
Verdict: LOSERS - Nicola Cortese is a man with big ambitions for Southampton so it was perhaps a little surprising that he brought in the same number of players as managers he got rid of in January. Only Norwegian youngster Vegard Forren has arrived to supplement the Saints but he is regarded as some prospect and with no significant exits on the playing side there will be a mood of optimism at St Mary's.
Stoke
Ins: Jack Butland (Birmingham), Brek Shea (FC Dallas)
Outs: Danny Higginbotham (Sheffield United, free), Michael Tonge (Leeds, undisclosed), Maurice Edu (Bursaspor, loan), Rory Delap (Barnsley, loan), Jack Butland (Birmingham, loan), Matthew Upson (Brighton, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - Tony Pulis was so serious about persuading the FA to ratify the signing of Brek Shea that he travelled down to London in person to speak at the work permit hearing. While the American has a big reputation, Stoke fans may be left wondering whether their manager would have been better off adding further to the full-back options at the Britannia Stadium. Butland could also prove a shrewd acquisition but in the here and now there wasn't too much for the Potters to get excited about.
Sunderland

Outs: Fraizer Campbell (Cardiff City), Blair Adams (Coventry), David Meyler (Hull City), Ji Dong-Won (Augsburg, loan), Johnny Maddison (Crawley, loan), Louis Saha (released), Ahmed Elmohamady (Hull, loan)
Verdict: WINNERS - Danny Graham may be a Newcastle fan but Black Cats supporters need to learn to embrace their new signing as he was the club's high-profile purchase on deadline day. The arrival of the striker could see a shift in the Sunderland shape with Stephane Sessegnon vulnerable to losing his spot in the starting line-up. Elsewhere, the signing of Alfred N'Diaye could prove even more significant with the 22-year-old midfielder producing a particularly strong display in the win at Wigan.
Swansea
Ins: Roland Lamah (Osasuna)
Outs:Leroy Lita (Sheffield Wednesday, loan), Jazz Richards (Crystal Palace, loan), Danny Graham (Swansea, £5million), Curtis Obeng (York, loan)
Verdict: LOSERS - It was a quiet deadline day in terms of incomings at the Liberty Stadium with the deal to bring in Roland Lamah tied up earlier in January. As a result, the exit of Danny Graham to Sunderland might be a slight concern to supporters. The 27-year-old scored in four consecutive games recently and provided the brilliant assist for the Swans most recent goal. If there is an injury to Michu before the League Cup final there could be frustration in South Wales.
Tottenham

Verdict: WINNERS - The need for a striker was the main focus for Tottenham supporters going into the transfer window and given chairman Daniel Levy's penchant for late deals many will have been hopeful right up until the deadline. But despite the speculation no deal was done and so Spurs will press on with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor. It wasn't all disappointment though. The cut-price deal to bring in Lewis Holtby now rather than wait until the summer could prove a masterstroke if the Germany international helps secure Champions League football.
West Brom

Verdict: WINNERS - West Brom may have spent deadline day in the spotlight thanks to the antics of Peter Odemwingie but they also happen to be the only Premier League team not to bring in a player in January. Chairman Jeremy Peace is known for his risk-averse strategy and is not a fan of the mid-season window but supporters might be left wondering whether the team needed a bit of help to build on their promising start to the season. Oh well, Peter is still there to help out...
West Ham

Verdict: WINNERS - Sam Allardyce is another who has bemoaned the January transfer window but that didn't stop the West Ham manager delving into the market to do his fair share of business. The populist acquisition of Joe Cole has been an initial success and if Big Sam can get Marouane Chamakh scoring then the Hammers boss could yet change his tune of the virtues of the mid-season squad shuffle.
Wigan

Verdict: LOSERS - January was a key month for Roberto Martinez last season as the signing of Jean Beausejour allowed the Latics to flourish with their wing-back system. Supporters hoping for a pivotal purchase this time around were treated to a host of loan arrivals but whether the smoking gun to eliminate their relegation rivals is among them remains to be seen. The early indications are positive with Roger Espinoza looking at a creative presence amid the drudgery at Stoke and Angelo Henriquez already off the mark too. The club even managed to offload Mauro Boselli - although they did fail to gets deals for Aiden McGeady, John Stones and Jefferson Montero over the line which could cost them.
