Ramsey insists QPR’s three points against West Brom was hugely important at this stage of the season

QPR manager Chris Ramsey has called on his players to show grit and determination against Chelsea on Sunday.

Chelsea make the short trip to their west London rivals with the Premier League title well within their grasp, but they will face a resurgent QPR side, who have picked up four points from their last two games.

Rangers hammered West Bromwich Albion 4-1 last week before drawing 3-3 at Aston Villa in a pulsating game in midweek, and Ramsey wants to see more of the same this weekend.

“We know it’s going to be difficult against any team, especially against the top ones,” the QPR boss told Sky Sports Super Sunday ahead of a crucial west London derby.

“It’s such a competitive league. We know Chelsea have what it takes to grind out results, as well as taking their performances to another level.

“We need to show the same grit and determination from the last two games. We are not writing ourselves off in this game, the pressure is on us as we want to stay in the division. We’re going to approach it with the same grit that we’ve showed in the last couple of games.”

Since taking over from Harry Redknapp in February, Ramsey has adopted a more attacking approach which has seen his side score at least one goal in each of their last nine games.

QPR still remain in relegation trouble, but they are just two points from safety and have the added bonus of a goalscorer like Charlie Austin, who has netted 17 in the Premier League this season, in their ranks.

“We had been creating a few chances before and luckily we took them against West Brom,” Ramsey said.

“Hopefully we can do it again this weekend. I thought the way we weathered the storm at the beginning was most pleasing and the way we stuck to the plan before the game.

“The away matches are vitally important. Anyway we can get a point is important. We’re looking forward to the game this weekend and I’m sure the boys will be up for it.”
