Swansea's win at Aston Villa must kick-start winning run, says Wayne Routledge

Swansea midfielder Wayne Routledge says his team won’t be happy with hitting the 40-point mark and will be desperate to build on their win at Aston Villa.

A late goal to Bafetimbi Gomis helped the Swans hit back from defeats by Liverpool and Tottenham to win 1-0 at Villa Park on Saturday and left them to eighth in the Premier League.

Routledge missed a chance to double the result, but said the team’s ability to recover would be key to a strong finish to the season.

"It was important to put a performance in and get the three points after two losses," Gomis told the club's website.

"We didn't play that badly in the two games, but when you don't pick up points, it's important you get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

"Every Premier League game is difficult, so to dig in and win the way we did was very pleasing.

Garry Monk was delighted with his side’s performance in Swansea’s victory over a resurgent Aston Villa and is happy his side keep upsetting the odds.

“The 40-point mark isn't a stopping point for us; we want to get as many points as possible before the end of the season.

"We always create chances, we kept a clean sheet and scored the crucial goal, so it's a nice feeling."

Gomis struck his sixth goal of the season, somewhat easing the pressure he has inherited since the Janaury departure of Wilfired Bony to Manchester City.

"Bafe is always in the right positions to score the goals,” Routledge said.

"He's a good player who has played in the Champions League. We all see the quality he has.”

While Swansea focus on a top-half of the table finish, Villa are left just  three points above the drop zone and boss Tim Sherwood is all to aware that the club remaina in a relegation scrap.

"We are right in it. Every point is vital and we need to pick up as many as we can to keep ourselves safe," he said.
