Swansea City manager Garry Monk has revealed his target for the season is to reach 47 points, which would equal the Welsh club's best points tally in the Premier League.

His side have garnered 40 points from their 27 games and they go up against the team one place above them in the table - Tottenham - at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.

Monk will be hoping his side can capitalise on any after-effects of Spurs' Capital One Cup disappointment at Wembley.

He said: "My next agenda is 47 points. That's the our best total in the Premier League and that's the target for us. Wednesday is the chance for us to get closer to that. Our focus is to try to achieve that and better it sooner rather than later.

"Wins breed confidence, when you get on a start of a run you want to try to maintain it. The last two performances have incresased the confidence in the squad. We are confident but aware that we're playing against a very good side.

"It's extremely difficult, Tottenham are a very good side and they're pushing for their own reasons and their own agendas. But we're looking forward to it, it's a good game, a fantastic stadium against a good team and we had a great game here against them (when Spurs won 2-1) earlier in the season."

Monk has dismissed talk of captain Ashley Williams leaving Swansea this summer. Williams signed a new deal to stay at the Liberty stadium last July and Monk also revealed plans are already in place for the summer transfer market.

He said: "He's the captain of the club and every year he's been linked with a move away. He's very settled here and stands for a lot of what we are doing here. So I don't envisage that changing. In terms of us, we are planning for the summer and we have been doing that for a long time. So those plans are in place and we will hopefully be able to make some moves when the times comes."
