David Silva is confident he can help carry the goalscoring burden for Manchester City while the club are without any of their recognised strikers.

The 28-year-old playmaker came to the rescue for City on Saturday with two goals in the second half to set up a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad.

Silva’s second-half double helped his side draw level on points with Premier League leaders Chelsea and the Spain international believes he can continue scoring.

"I was able to score two goals and help the team, so I am very happy,” he told City TV. "Without strikers we have to work a bit more on trying to score goals and we did that, as in the last game, so hopefully we can continue like this.

I have always said that I like to play in the middle and every time I play there I try to score goals.

Silva starred on Saturday playing in a central role behind James Milner, breaking the deadlock four minutes after half-time with a deflected effort.

He then added to his tally with another one on the hour, firing City 2-0 ahead with a close-range strike from the edge of the six-yard box.

Yaya Toure secured the win with a goal in the 81st minute, meaning three points for City and their eighth straight win in all competitions.

Attention now turns to Chelsea’s clash with Stoke on Monday night, when Jose Mourinho’s men will have the chance to move three points ahead of City once again.

Silva believes that every point will be vital, especially over the next few weeks during a busy stretch for City.

"We know that we have to play a lot of games during this month and that we have to try to get as many points as we can," he said.

"So let's see if they drop some points and we can put some pressure on them."
