Mauricio Pochettino congratulated his players for showing the character to win against an impressive Swansea side.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was left delighted with his younger players and stressed the importance of developing them following the dramatic 2-1 victory at Swansea.

Harry Kane – a product of the Tottenham academy - put the visitors in front inside four minutes to score his 11th goal of the season from a corner but Swansea responded in excellent fashion and Wilfried Bony levelled things up early in the second half.

However, Spurs progressed up into seventh in the Premier League when Christian Eriksen found the net with injury time approaching.

Kane picked up the Man Of The Match award for another all-action performance and Pochettino praised the way he and the younger members of the squad are currently performing.

“I’m very pleased for him and all the players because this afternoon we have a lot of young talent on the field.,” he said.

“This is important for Tottenham. We have a young squad but we are playing in the right way and showed character at a very difficult place like Swansea. They are a very good team and it’s not easy to get the three points like we did.”

Three of Tottenham's last four Premier League away games have seen them score a winner in the 89th minute or later and this never-say-die attitude also pleased the Spurs boss.

“I am very happy,” he said.

“I congratulate all my players because they did very well this afternoon on the pitch and showed character in a very good win. We played in the right way and work very hard during the week. Every day we are on the training ground and now we are starting to see the results.

“In football you need to score. We deserved more in the last two or three games but we didn’t score. When you don’t score you don’t deserve to win.

"But this afternoon in the first-half we did well and worked hard. We conceded the goal and afterwards they pushed hard and played well. But in the last 10-15 minutes we had control of the game again. We scored and I think it’s a very good victory.”
